Bumper Pool

Bumper Pool is a fun game of billiards pool. This is a fun game that consists of 12 to 16 bumpers on an octagonal table. The game is played by 5 red balls and 5 white ones as well. One of each of these two colors has a marked ball with the set. It is similar to pool except you "bump" the balls against the bumpers to make things tricky. This is where the name bumper pool came from. You use a bumper pool, game table which is generally a 7 foot pool table. Each table has two bumpers that surround each pocket.

Most Bumper Pool tables are a combination game table that offers a 7 foot pool table used for playing bumper pool. You can however, buy a bumper pool table that allows you to play other games. This is a combination game table that allows you play not only bumper pool, but also card games. All you have to do is flip the table over to have that alternative game table. If you buy a traditional bumper pool table, instead of a combination bumper pool table; you will have a more stable set up for playing bumper pool. While most bumper pool tables are in the shape of an octagon, some are shaped like a regular pool table.

The rules of bumper pool are simple. You place the ball that is marked in front of the bumper pocket, surrounded by the opposing team’s balls. Now place two balls on either side of the bumpers. Next you play. Each player hits the marked ball of the rail to the right. The one that gets closest to the pocket with his or her marked ball will get to go next. Now the object at this point for the player that is in the lead, is to get his marked ball into the pocket with out getting the other balls in the pocket. If the player fails to achieve this; they give their opponent the ability to place two balls in their pocket. If you are playing bumper pool on a 7 foot pool table; this part is where it gets fun. You can play angles with the balls to prevent your opponent from accessing their assigned pockets. This renders them unable to do anything. You have the advantage.

This is where the bumper pool table, combination game table size and shape will affect the game a bit. If your bumper pool table is very large rather than octagonal; you may have trouble reaching the balls as you play. Some will have this issue during play. The smaller octagonal table is tricky as well though. It offers more angles to the game play. The end of this game is won when a player gets all of his balls into the assigned pocket first.

The sport or game of bumper pool is taken very seriously by some players. While many bumper pool players only play the game for sport and fun; some people play it as championships. It is at this level of the game that sizes of tables and textures of the bumper pool table affects the game most.

Bumper pool table is played largely in France, and is considered a sport or game of angles and thinking. Similar to pool, it allows the player both the fun of sport and thinking as well. Textures of the table can affect the game play. The texture affects the balls ability to move across the table. The materials used in the construction of the combination bumper pool table or simple bumper pool table even affect the ability for the balls to react to bounce as they game is played. No matter what you game is for this strategy sport game, bumper pool tables make the game of bumper pool both fun and engaging.
