Alabama’s men’s baseball team has not been noticed somewhat because of their great football team. In 2002, they briefly had a number 1 ranking. Their fans went crazy at that time and bought a lot of Alabama Crimson Tide merchandise.
Billy Donovan is in his 13th season of coaching the Florida Gators men’s basketball team. The team never won their conference title but won the regular season title several times. There were Florida Gators merchandise worn by fans at these games.
A few years ago, the team started off 17-0. This was the best in school history. This surprised many people because the team was young and led by four sophomores. The team wasn’t ranked in the preseason but the proved what they were made of. They won back-to-back national championships. Billy Donovan led the Gators to the NIT Semifinals last year. This was their rebuilding year.
Amanda Butler is the head coach of the women’s basketball team. Women’s basketball was approved in 1972 and a team began to play a year later. Their women’s team is often overlooked because of Tennessee and Georgia, who are in the same division as them. They are all on the national stage but Tennessee and Georgia get more national spotlight. Carol Ross was the winningest coach in the women’s basketball history at Florida before she starting coaching at the University of Mississippi.
Coach Andy Landers has coached the women’s basketball team at Georgia since 1979. He led them to seven regular-season SEC titles and 4 SEC tournament championships. He coached the team to 23 NCAA tournaments and 5 Final Four tournaments. He is the coach with the most wins never to have won it all. Fans still come to the games with Georgia Bulldogs merchandise on.
The men’s basketball team is overlooked because of the history of the women’s team.
LSU’s men’s basketball team is coached by Trent Johnson. He helped the team get ranked nationally for a while in the 2008-09 season. Tigers fans cheered really hard and they were waving their LSU Tigers merchandise during this time.
Rick Barnes is one of Texas’s best men’s basketball coaches. Fans bought a lot of Texas Longhorns merchandise during this time.
